Algonquin college of Applied Arts and Technology Dental Hygiene Diploma
The Dental Hygiene program at Algonquin College prepares students to become skilled and compassionate oral health professionals through a balanced blend of academic study, clinical practice, and community engagement. Students build a strong foundation in anatomy, physiology, pathology, and oral health sciences while gaining expertise in assessment, preventive care, periodontal therapy, radiography, and patient education.
A hallmark of the program is its extensive hands-on training. In the college’s modern dental clinic, students provide supervised care to patients, applying classroom knowledge in real clinical settings. Community placements in schools, long-term care facilities, and public health organizations further enhance their skills and cultural awareness while reinforcing the role of oral health in overall well-being.
The curriculum emphasizes professionalism, ethics, and patient-centered care. Students are trained to work independently and collaboratively within interprofessional teams, while developing leadership, communication, and critical thinking skills.
Graduates are eligible to apply for registration with the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario (CDHO) and other provincial regulatory bodies, enabling them to work in private practices, community health centers, hospitals, and public health agencies. With growing recognition of oral health’s importance, the program offers excellent career opportunities and a solid pathway to professional success.
